Latin fiesta meets Art Deco splendour

We think one of the things that makes our Latin-themed festival special is the setting. Taking place on June 17, La Clave Fest will have its main stage outside the Hornsey Town Hall Arts Centre in Crouch End, with its pretty square and fountain making it feel welcoming and European. But there will also be special workshops, events and film screenings taking place inside the impressive building that still retains many of its original features, including an Ashton marble staircase and high-quality wood paneling. It was opened in November 1935 as offices for the local council and won an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects for the quality of the design.

Inside, the main hall is one of London's finest examples of a 1930s music hall, with wooden floors that are perfect for some of our events: a Futsal tournament for children (11am to 3pm), dance workshops (4 to 8pm) and not forgetting our after party from 10pm.

The committee room, meanwhile, has a long banquet hall that spans the breadth of the building and overlooks the square. It will be the setting of our Latin fusion pop-up restaurant, where diners will be transported to 1940s Havana-Rio-Cartagena after it is given a lush tropical makeover.

The council chamber’s rounded glory provides the perfect setting for our films and talks. And there is no room more suited to tango and a second after party than the supper room, a throwback to the decadence of a bygone era.
